New Building in the Village

Anybody know what they are builing in Sewickley? I'm sure you know the place...right on Beaver Street, where Louie and Sons/Carter's Cards used to be. They tore down that old building and constructed this new one hastily. The rumors that I have heard all point to one thing...a Kay's Jewelers. Any validation for this??? I personally think that a Kay's Jewelers in Sewickley is ridiculous. I suppose industrialization is just running its course on Sewickley, but a Kay's Jewelers?

I believe it was reported in the Herald, an Orr's Jewelers store is being built. There is one in Squirrel Hill and it is a beautiful store.

Yes, and the Chico's in the middle of Sewickley is completely acceptable.

There are no other stores in town that offer the same product as Chicos, so, yes.... it is completely acceptble!

Talbots, SoHo, The Elephant Trunk, Name Dropper, Perfect all sell different things than Chico's? hmm....I thought those were all clothing stores.

Perhaps I should have been more specific.... Chicos sells a DIFFERENT TYPE of product - some people prefer not to wear clothing made from fabric with small animals printed all over it or plaid!!! UGH!(certainly different than the clothing at Talbots, SoHo, The Elephant Trunk, Name Dropper, Perfect) and for those of us not born with the 'Sewickley Silver Spoon' in our mouths, a much different price tag as well.

Additionally, Orr's (Kay Jewelers sister company) can be found in any mall (Robinson, Monroeville, Century III, Beaver Valley, Ross Park, etc.) in the Pittsburgh area, whereas there are only a select few Chicos locations throught the region.

First of all not everyone in Sewickley was born with or continues to have a silver spoon in their mouths. Totally uncalled for- feeds into the stereotype. Secondly, Chico's has the same or higher prices than the stores mentioned in the other post. They are not exempt from the "ugly clothes" category either. But that is neither here nor there. The point I think the other person was making was that people in this town make a huge fuss about chain stores coming into the area when we already have many established chain stores here. Perhaps those who come to town to frequent these store will find the small nostalgic unique stores of Sewickley appealling?
Any support of Sewickley businesses is good for the town.

Orr's Jewelers is not even in the same ballpark as Kay's. Orr's has one upscale store in the East End area of the City. It is owned by a local Sewickley family.

Why get all worked up over a "new" store? No matter what it is, as long as it brings in much needed cash flow into a closed minded town such as Sewickley, then it's good. Will not the rich folk spend their monies if it turns out to be a Kay's Jewelers? Wake up people of Sewickley and welcome and support whatever store comes to your antiquated Borough.

Yes they are a Sewickley family owned independent jeweler and have nothing to do with any chain jewelers, including Kays Jewelers. Kays is part of the Sterling Corp, and their stores are Jareds, Shaws, and other mall stores, that is why their jewelery looks all the same. Orrs carries custom designed jewelry, high end designer jewelery, specialty watches and loose diamonds. They only have one other store in the world, and that is in Squrill Hill!
