Quaker Valley musical earns Gene Kelly Award nomination

Quaker Valley High School's production of "Footloose" earned a nomination for best lighting design in the 18th annual Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater.
It was the only nomination the production received.
Other schools receiving lighting design nominations include: Central Catholic ("Beauty and the Beast"), North Catholic ("Seussical"), Pine-Richland ("Seussical"), Riverview ("Aida") and Woodland Hills ("Beauty and the Beast").
Of the 28 Allegheny County high schools in the annual Tony Awards-like ceremony, 22 gained one or more of the 81 nominations in 15 categories that include acting, choreography, crew, design, direction, ensemble and student orchestra.
The awards ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m., May 24, at the Benedum Center, Downtown. Gene Kelly's widow, Patricia Ward Kelly, will be part of the event.

The Gene Kelly Awards will be broadcast live on the lightboard at Theater Square. This “Party on the Plaza” is free and open to the public.
