Birds were chirping this morning, reminding everyone to prepare for the new day with new politicians to to help lead our local municipalities into a new direction.
I thought of getting up and shooting the birds with a rubber band or something --'Cause they were wrong.
I woke up this morning to find out that the same folks who've been leading our districts into the gutter will still be in place next year, the year after that, and so on.
If you don't believe me about the way we're going, just look at the revitalization of East Liberty, Bloomfield, even Ambridge is beginning to get business back after the cyclical depression that many Pittsburgh neighborhoods have experienced.
With the prominence and wealth of our area, the business district should be booming, not a boon.
According to a Sewickley Herald article a few months back, there are more banks here than places to go to eat. There entire atmosphere here is that we need to go out of the area to get everything we need.
It's difficult to even find a pair of shoes in Sewickley and there's only one-half of a store for men to buy clothes.
I don't necessarily blame councils for the short-sightedness of private business, but there are certainly things they can do to help foster an economic renaissance of our own.

We lived in Sewickley several years ago and moved but still love Sewickley. The two major problems are parking and those aggressive police riding their bikes giving parking tickets. It seems like if you stop for lunch and feed the parking meter then your sandwich comes a few minutes late it ends up costing you an additional several dollars. Why don't the police become more shopper friendly and lighten up. Give the shoppers a polite warning or some grace period before torturing them with a parking ticket.

Travel Wares - - - Several years ago I purchased some very expensive long sleeve shirts from Travel Wares on Broad Street. When I got home and put one on it had two left sleeves - - - that's right two left sleeves. The other shirt had it's labels sewn in up side down. THESE EXPENSIVE SHIRTS WERE SECONDS!! When I stopped back to return them the little lady that owns Travel Wares didn't even look at the shirts but immediately gave me my money back and escorted me to the door. People this store owner is cheating her customers. How do you think we feel about shopping in Sewickley?
