Waste Removal Professionals

I have total respect for an individual that can hoist heavy trash and sling it into the back of a big truck... and the smell... and in rain, snow, sleet and hail! But I also have a problem with some of them.

Gone are the days of friendly, curteous trash removal. I, for one, am getting a little tired of picking my trash cans out of my flower beds after the inconsiderate trash professional throws them there after emptying them. And another thing - if something falls out or is dragged out of the can by an unidentified force and is laying right beside the can on the sidewalk, is it too much to ask that they pick it up??? If it is too much trouble to toss that stray object into the truck with the rest of the trash you are collecting... which is the whole idea... place it back in the can and take it with you next week, I won't mind. Perhaps the trash man doesn't live in my neighborhood and couldn't give a hoot if the streets are littered with stray trash but I do and I'm sure others in our borough do as well.

Maybe I am showing my age, however, I remember a time when individuals took pride in the profession they chose whether it be doctor, lawyer, indian chief or garbage man.

I agree with some of what you have said but I do think that we home owners need to be aware of the varmints, cute thought they may be, and present our refuse in containers that restrict varmints. By restricting the varmints we allow our Refuse Engineers to do their jobs. I don’t think they need to be picking up stuff off the road as the go.

I regularly visit relatives on Dawson Ave in Glenfield and for the past three years one particular house has continually been under renovation. The yard has is torn up and the lot beside it is overgrown with weeds and get this a discarded boat which I understand it's up for grabs empty drums and overturned earth. There is refuse over the entire two lots that this person owns and it can and will become a dumping ground for other peoples junk and a residence for vermin. Is there no limit to how long a person can keep a piece of property in decaying condition? I remember when the something like this would be brought to the attention of the borough officials.

Well, where I live, if your garbage can doesn't conform to standards, you'll get no trash removal and a nice little notice stating that you'll be fined for improper container the next time you put it out. No kidding......our garbage can is apparently too big. Where do we live, you ask? Wilkinsburg. Yes, Wilkinsburg. They'll take a ripped-open bag of lord-knows-what, but NOT anything from my pristine garbage can, complete with fitted lid so that vermin can't get in. You know...because it's too big. :) Sigh.........
