Caroline Moody Roberts
Sewickley resident
Caroline Moody Roberts, Mrs. William Drake Roberts Sr., of Sewickley died on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, in the company of her family from emphysema.
Born in New York City to the late Alfred Gilman Scammon Moody and Ruth Pierrepont Moody, Mrs. Roberts attended Berkley Institute and graduated from Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where she was president of the Aints and Asses, the college's humor society.
She was an active member of The Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, where she co-chaired the cookbook project "Seasoned in Sewickley" and enjoyed serving on the wedding committee.
Known for her laugh, sense of humor and outspokenness, she was an avid bridge player and devoted wife, mother and friend, who used to enjoy travel, tennis and skiing.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, of 53 years; her two children, W. Drake Roberts Jr. of Sewickley, and Caroline Roberts Wentling and her husband, Tom, of Pittsburgh; her grandchildren, Caroline Gilman Wentling, Margaret Graham Roberts and Thomas Lynch Wentling III.
Now that her husband is recovering from being hospitalized with illness and exhaustion, a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. April 19 at The Presbyterian Church, Sewickley, 414 Grant St.
The family will receive friends after the ceremony in the Robinson Room at the church.
Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to the church for the tree fund in her memory.

John W. Todd Jr.
U.S. Steel vice president
John W. Todd Jr., 93, died at his home in Sewickley Heights March 24, 2008.
He was the son of the late John W. Todd Sr. and Marguerite McCracken Todd.
His wife of 62 years, Polly Whipple Todd, preceded him in death in 1999.
He is survived by two daughters, Wendy Bidsrup, of Wareham, Mass., and Virginia "Gigi" Prindiville of Winslow, Maine; six grandchildren; nine great-grandhildren; a sister, Marjorie Simonds of Ben Avon Heights; and seven nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Cornell University in the class of 1935, he began his career with U.S. Steel at the Homestead Works and progressed through various management positions. He was executive vice president, commercial, from March 1, 1972, until his retirement in 1975.
During his retirement, he and his wife were involved in the affairs of their church, as well as other Sewickley community activities.
The funeral service was held at Providence Presbyter-ian Church in Robinson Township. Interment was in Sewickley Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Robinson Township Christ-ian School or to the Salvation Army.

Henry Raymond Smith
Sewickley resident
Henry Raymond Smith, 64, of Sewickley, died March 30, 2008.
He was the husband of Lana Rose Gomolek Smith; brother of Mary (Daniel) Mandus of Canonsburg; and brother-in-law of Bill Gomolek of Economy Borough.
He also is survived by nieces and nephews.
Mr. Smith was a member of the North American Fishing Association and woodworking groups.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday. Interment was in Sewickley Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The Rev. Howard Hartzell
Minister
The Rev. Howard J. Hartzell, 83, of Sewickley died on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, at Allegheny General Hospital.
He was born in New Castle on Nov. 14, 2008, to the late Amos and Carrie Meyers Hartzell.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II, the Rev. Hartzell was ordained in the New Castle area and servied at the Zion Full Gospel Church.
He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing and socializing with family and friends.
In July, he would have been married 45 years to his wife, Vera Fehl Hartzell.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by Joanna Goodwin and her husband, Philip, of Texas; Janna Sullivan and husband, Greg, of North Carolina; Jaylene Hartzel of Sewickley; Sandy Tatar of Pennsylvania; and John Hartzell of Sewickley. He also is suvived by three grandchildren, Connor Sullivan, Richard Goodwin and Brandon Waterson; and three great-grandchildren.
Interment, with full military honors, was in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington County.
