J. Sterling "Skip" Davis Jr.
Grandfather of six
J. Sterling "Skip" Davis Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away quietly after a very short but brave battle with pancreatic cancer on June 14, 2008.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1935, in Chicago. His parents are the late J. Sterling Davis and Charlotte Elizabeth Walcott Davis of Sewickley.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marjorie Kendall Davis, and his children, J. Sterling "Chip" Davis lll and his wife, Katherine Winder Davis, of Greenville, S.C.; and Candace Fletcher Palya and her husband, Paul Jason Palya, of Knoxville, Tenn; and Christina VanNan Clark and her husband, Grenville Clark lV, of Asheville, N.C.
He attended the Berkshire School in Great Barrington, Maine, and Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
He was involved in commercial real estate for many years.
His greatest joy was realized when he began devoting his time reading to children with his collection of puppets at Sewickley Public Library and at Christ Church at Grove Farm in Ohio Township.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church at Grove Farm at a later date.
He will be laid to rest at Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit, Mass.
Donations in his honor may be made to the Children's Ministries at Christ Church at Grove Farm and The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Arrangements were made by Copeland's Sewickley Funeral Home.
Betty Lundeen
of Oakdale
Betty Lundeen, 88, of Oakdale, Pa., formerly of Moon Township and Sewickley, died June 16, 2008.
The daughter of the late Frederick and Alice Potter Berkman, she is a member of Sharon Community Presbyterian Church, Sewickley Valley YMCA, and Raccoon Women's Club of Clinton, Pa.
She was an administrative assistant with PDM and worked in accounting department with Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Rail Road.
She loved to travel with her late husband, Carl J. Lundeen. She is survived by her children, Carol Hazlett and dear friend, Ernie Kosack, Judy Grisevich of Jamestown, R.I., and John Lundeen of Oakdale.
She also is survived by her sister, Evelyn Berkman of San Rafael, Calif.; grandchildren, Susan and husband, Dan, Patterson, Christine and husband, Theo, Baehr, and Laura and Greg Grisevich; and great-grandchildren, Carly Baehr and Claire Patterson. She was preceded in death by brothers, David and Bill Berkman.
A funeral service was held Wednesday at Sharon Community Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements were made by Copeland's of Moon Township.
