Michael Arndt Jr.
Sewickley

Michael Arndt Jr., 2, of Sewickley, passed away May 23, 2008, in his home.

He was the beloved son of Michael and Wendy Labousier Arndt Sr., nephew of Christine Arndt of McKees Rocks, Rose Arndt of Greenville, Pa., Douglas and Angela Arndt of Coraopolis, and Michelle Labousier, who also was his godmother. His paternal grandparents are George and Mary Arndt of McKees Rocks. His maternal grandparents are Susan and Doug Kickbush and Richard and Deborah Labousier, all of Florida.

Michael was cousin to Melissa Zebroski and husband, Bryan; Ashley, Shawn, and Kira Arndt; and Jacob Zebroski.

Interment was in Sewickley Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Hoston
Former Sewickley resident

Elizabeth Ann Wesley Hoston was born Jan. 10, 1924, and passed away on May 24, 2008.

Known to her family as Mimi, she was the eldest of six children born to Carrie Jackson and John Wesley. She graduated from Schenley High School in Pittsburgh and worked in many boutiques until retiring from Gimbels after 25 years.

She enjoyed dance, jazz and entertainment and performed in revues, activities and fundraising events for Sewickley Community Center.

She married Oscar Jones of Pittsburgh and raised three children, Karen Jones-Humphries, Alvin Jones and Shirley Jones-Wormsley. In 1958, she moved to Sewickley, where she and Clarence Colvin were married.

She was a member of Triumph Baptist Church during the tenure of the Rev. Samuel White.

Widowed suddenly after 10 years, she married William Hoston, who preceded her in death in 1994.

In her later years, she moved to Coraopolis.

With strength and sorrow, she buried two children, Alvin and Karen. Although her health began to fail, she continued a legacy of care and grace toward her family and their needs.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley, and her husband, Matthew; her daughter-in-law, Amanda; 14 grandchildren: Alvin, Lisa, Kevin, Melanie, Chucky, Dory, Julie, Carl, Carly, Alvin J., Chris, Jeff, Candice and Andrew; 37 great-grandchildren; cousins, Jackie and Irva; and a host of relatives, extended family and friends.

Burial was in Sewickley Cemetery.

Copeland's Coraopolis Funeral Home made the arrangements.

The family thanks the staff at ManorCare North Hills for their tender and kind care.

James A. Smith
Formerly of Sewickley

James A. Smith, 79, of Girard and formerly of Sewickley, died April 26, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Olean, N.Y., on Jan. 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Albert C. and Ethel Fleshman Smith.

A graduate of DeLone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pa., he served 10 years in the Pennsylvania National Guard, 104th Calvary Regiment, during the Korean War.

He was a salesman for Charles M. Henry Printing for 40 years and worked at the Gettysburg Times as a lithographer.

He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Fairview, the Knights of Columbus in York, Pa., and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 335.

Mr. Smith also was a backpacking instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and St. Vincent College. He was a member of the Chardonnay Villagers and Asbury Seniors.

He had been a member of St. James Church, Sewickley, and a founder of St. James' 55+ Club.

He enjoyed ballroom dancing, backpacking and woodworking and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. John F. Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Kent Pentland Smith; four sons: Jeffry Smith and his wife, Deborah, of Harrisburg, Stephen Smith and his wife, Amy, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Eric Smith and his wife, Christy, of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Ryan Smith and his wife, Joy, of Lagos, Nigeria; two daughters, Lois Smith and her husband, Ron Peralez, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Linda Belhumeur and her husband, Kenneth, of Fallbrook, Calif.; three stepsons, Michael J. Pentland and his wife, Karen, of Moon Township, Mark J. Pentland and his wife, Elaine, of Coraopolis, and Vic J. Pentland and June of Belle Vernon; a stepdaughter, Cynthy Post and her husband, Carl, of Fairview; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Fairview.

Theresa Yanckello
Sewickley resident

Theresa Yanckello, 89, of Sewickley, died May 24, 2008. She was the wife of Michael Yanckello, who preceded her in death in 1990.

She was the beloved mother of the late Anthony Yanckello and wife, Roberta, and James Yanckello and wife, Shirley; and sister of the late Josephine Chirillo and Esterino,Mario and Pete Russo.

Mrs. Yanckello is survived by grandchildren, Chris and Robert Yanckello, Tammy Smith, JoAnne Zehnder and Tracy Bayly; and great-grandchildren, Kristen, Michael, James, Sadie, Lucy and Michael.

Burial was in St. James Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Copeland's, Sewickley.
