George Oliver
volunteer treasurer of Trinity School for Ministry

George Oliver, 92, of Sewickley, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009.

He was born Aug. 1, 1917, son of Augustus and Margaretta (Wood) Oliver of Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Shadyside Academy and Yale University and served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He married Eleanor Garrison in 1947 at St. Stephen's Church where he served as treasurer and senior warden and was a devoted member for more than 50 years. He was a trust officer at PNC until he took early retirement to serve as a volunteer treasurer of Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge and did so for more than 20 years.

He is survived by Eleanor, his loving wife of 62 years; his three children, Connie Swanson, Margaretta Caesar and Charles Oliver; grandchildren, Brooke, Tyler and Lauren Caesar, George, Sarah and Lilly Oliver, and Christopher and Mariah Swanson. He also is survived by his sister, Margaretta Schroeder, and his brother, Jack Oliver.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Stephen's Church, 405 Frederick Ave., Sewickley, PA 15143 or Trinity School for Ministry, 311 11th St., Ambridge, PA 15003.

Natalie Lias
Infant daughter

Natalie Marie Lias, precious infant daughter of Nicholas (formerly of New Brighton) and Beth Carpenter Lias (formerly of Altoona), both now of Philadelphia, was born to eternal life on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.

She is the granddaughter of Hiram and Dana Carpenter, Karen Bishop and the late David Lias; great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Musiol, and David and Gladys Lias; and she is loved by her many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kellie Hankinson
Mother of two

Kellie Lynn Hankinson, 26, of Sewickley, died suddenly on Sept. 29, 2009. She is the daughter of Kenneth Hankinson Sr. of New York and Stephanie Smith (Andrew) McNeill of Sewickley.

She was the fiance of Daniel Carr of Ambridge; mother of Lena and Keldan Carr; and sister of Kenneth Hankinson Jr. of Florida.

Conrad Schuette
Purple Heart recipient

Conrad H. L. Schuette III of Salem, Va., died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at his daughter's home in Goode, Va.

He was born July 7, 1925, son of the late Conrad H. L. Schuette II and Elizabeth Frutchey of Glen Osborne. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty-Lou Keys of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., and son-in-law Bruce Mahan of Salem, Va.

Mr. Schuette grew up in Sewickley. He served in the 376th Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his military service, he graduated from Amherst College and the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania. He worked as an assistant vice president at Mellon Bank, NA until his retirement.

He was a devout Episcopalian. He was an amateur ornithologist who enjoyed hiking and counting birds until the time of his death.

Surviving are his three daughters, Nina (Robert) Burke, of Wrightsville Beach, N.C.; Elizabeth ( Robin) Wood of Goode, Va.; and Kimberly Mahan of Salem, Va. He also is survived by his three grandchildren, Georgia and Ethan Wood and James Mahan.

Mildred Butler
Founded company

Mildred Butler, 92, of Sewickley, died Monday, Sept. 28. 2009, while in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: daughter Barbara Glessner and her husband Jim; son Jack Butler and his wife Elissa; daughter Debi Butler-Stentz; grandchildren Cassie Glessner, Justin Glessner and his wife Kellie, Jobie Glessner and his wife Romi, Alyson Glessner and her husband Dan, Abydee Butler and Alex Stentz; and great-grandchildren, Luca, Lakin, Liam, Leo and Landry Glessner.

Millie, Mom, Nana or Chloe as she was affectionately called was the youngest of three sisters born in Reading, to Abraham and Sally Spatz. She grew up during the Great Depression, her father Abraham was a kind-hearted carpenter who would provide carpentry work for the people of Reading regardless of their ability to pay. Millie, a classic beauty with big blue eyes, found her perfect match with the handsome John Butler, who she married in 1947.

That same year, they moved to Pittsburgh, first to Beaver, then in later years to Wexford and finally to Sewickley. In 1948, they started Butler Gas Products Co., a successful gas and welding supply business that remains in the family today. She is a founder and sat as chairwoman of the board.

Mille and John had three children: Barbara, John (Jack) and Debi. In 1977, Miller lost her husband to cancer. Though heartbroken, Millie would not be broken. She went on to help her children raise their children, travel the world and give to causes she cared deeply about. She had great compassion for people and animals, a mark-ed generosity, a playful spirit, a quick wit and an easy laugh. She kept her great beauty until the end. Arrangements by Richard D.
