She's little more than a month away from her collegiate volleyball debut, but Christa Rogers is still receiving awards for her high school achievements.

Rogers, a star in volleyball, basketball and track for Quaker Valley, was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the 2007-08 school year by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The three-sport athlete, who plans to major in electrical engineering at Morgan State, where she will also compete on the Bears' volleyball team, experienced success in all of her athletic endeavors as a senior, leading to her being selected for the award.

She ended her year by winning four WPIAL gold medals in track for the second year in a row, which she followed by claiming four PIAA medals at the state track meet.

Prior to that, Rogers led the Quakers volleyball team to the playoffs as an all-state setter, while also leading the QV girls basketball team in scoring, en route to a second consecutive playoff berth.

While talent played a big factor in what Rogers achieved, her work ethic played an equally vital role, as she told the Trib's Tricia Lafferty.

"Even if I wasn't the best, I just wanted to do so well," Rogers said. "I just wanted to prove that I can do it and that I'm willing to work hard."

Rogers was featured alongside Jeannette football/basketball star Terrelle Pryor, the Male Athlete of the Year, in the Trib's July 6 edition.
